Sewage Backups

Pipe Blockages are often caused by drains receiving waste they were never intended to carry. Diapers, sanitary napkins, and towels are often too large for the pipes to handle. Common drain blockers are hair, string, rocks, mud, construction debris, leaves, bottle caps and toys. Tree Roots & F.O.G. are the worst culprits (see below). Sewer & drains, even when installed perfectly, are subject to blockages over time. The situation is made worse when the sewer pipes have “backfall”. Backfall is a condition when pipes slope uphill, causing watewater to work against gravity.

The Problem with "fog" Fat, Oil, Grease

FOG (Fats, Oils, Grease) is the most common pipe blocking substance. FOG is a byproduct of cooking, found in food scraps, meat fats, cooking oil, lard, butter, sauces & dairy products. All too often, FOG is washed into the plumbing system through kitchen sinks & grabage disposers,
then sticking inside your pipes. FOG is a particular problem in commercial establishments with inadequate FOG control measures, such as well maintained grease interceptors.

The Solution Drain Cleaning

Drain Cleaning with a rotary drain snake requires an operator to have “the touch” to properly chew through a tough blockage. HHCC’s operators have this touch, developed through years of experience. The operator must instinctively know how undergroud sewers and drains were installed, without xray vision. The operator must know which cutter head to use, and how much pressure to apply to achieve the desired results. Often a drain snake will make an opening through a pipe, allowing a blockage to drain. The pipe walls will still have considerable buildup, especially in the case of FOG. An effective way to scour the pipe walls is by Hydro-Jetting cleaning. High pressure water 3,000 to 4,000 psi blasts the residue from the pipe walls, leaving a much cleaner, better flowing pipe.
